The amazing WinPad® IO encapsulates the new energy efficient OakTrail CPU  platform in a highly ruggedized IP65 and MIL810G proof housing at only 1.6kg.  Combining a sunlight readable display and dual hot-swappable batteries this rugged tablet offers the choice of all wireless radios: WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5G and GPS, as well as a range of data capture options: Front/Rear cameras, RFID, MSR, Smart Card Reader and 1D/2D barcode reader.

Pixel-Qi Sunlight Readable Displays (Optional Extra)

Heard of Pixel-Qi? (pronounced "Chee"). Most people haven't, yet it is by far the best sunlight readable technology available. Forget "transflective", "ant-glare" or regular "sunlight-readable" screens, even those with high brightness. Anyone that has used these technologies knows that in bright sunlight you still can't see the screen, and high brightness just kills your battery. Pixel-Qi is different, it is a fusion of regular light emitting display technology and a purely reflective layer. This means that in bright sunlight you can turn OFF the backlight saving an enormous amount of battery power. In bright sunlight the screen becomes very similar to e-ink as implemented on e-readers such as Amazon's Kindle. Light-emitting displays are responsible for as much as 90% of battery drain on mobile devices so not only is true sunlight-readability game-changing in it's own right, the added benefit of greatly extended battery life is a win-win. 

The Pixel-Qi screen we use is a combination of a standard transmissive colour LCD and a very low power, high-resolution black-and-white display with 64 grey scales. 

Colour Part
Each individual pixel is divided into three cells, or subpixels with red, green and blue color filter. A LED backlight is placed behind and shines through the layer of liquid crystal and the colour filters where as the orientation of the crystals controls the brightness of each colour. 

Black and White Part
As soon as the backlight is switched off, the reflective black-and-white part uses the ambient light e.g. from a lamp or the sun which enters the display and is reflected by a mirror behind a large part of each pixel. On its way back the brightness of each subpixel is controlled by the liquid crystal similar to the colour mode. In order to reduce loss of brightness, the colour filters are dropped in this area. Therefore each subpixel becomes visible to the user as a black-and-white pixel with 64 grey-scales. 

The screen in an iPad 3 uses 8 watts of power. Pixel Qi TFT displays are designed for very low power consumption. 

In full sunlight, backlight off, the device consumes just 0.4W (equivalent 1000-5000 nit screen brightness)
With office lighting and mid screen brightness the device consumes 1.0 -1.7W (equivalent 200-300 nit screen brightness)
In a dark room, maximum power consumption is 1.7 - 2.5W (100-200 nit screen brightness)
